LOVE AT FIRST CLICK - An AI Short Film
I’ve always been a fan of computer graphics and technology. Back in high school, I saved up to buy an Amiga 500, one of the best computers for graphics at the time. It allowed me to create simple designs over video imagery—things my 7-year-old now easily does on an iPad. Fast forward to today, with AI, text-to-image, and video technology, I’m blending my passion for image-making, film, history, and sci-fi to create short-form content.
As creatives, we often have ideas that don’t make it to the printed page or silver screen. With AI, we can now bring these ideas to life—whether as proof of concept, experiments, or entirely new forms of expression.
LOVE AT FIRST CLICK – A Photo District Story was born from this exploration. I used ChatGPT and Kling AI for image and video generation, with 364 prompts to create the visuals. Traditional methods like storyboarding, photos, and drawings also helped shape the film’s look.
I chose B&W for a film noir aesthetic, muting the saturated colors typical of cyberpunk AI imagery. Grain and effects helped reduce common AI flaws. One challenge was consistent face generation; AI models evolve daily, so prompts that worked one day didn’t work the next. Instead of fighting it, my collaborator Rodney Charles suggested making it part of the story—our character changes because he lives on the blockchain, controlled by an ever-evolving AI.
Rodney Charles and Yasmin C Rams voiced the hero characters, while the AI’s voice was generated. Music by John Song of The Futuristic Vintage. Editing, sound design, and post-production were completed traditionally by Chase Hirt of Imaginaire Media.
This project is tied to The Photo District experience, live & playable in the The Sandbox metaverse. Explore our social hub for the photography community here. Love at First Click serves as a tie-in series for The Photo District, designed to generate excitement for the project.
